Commissioning a Portrait

Types of portraits on offer.

All portraits are unframed

Portraits in oil are on medium grain canvas and are a standard size for ready made frames and professional frames alike.

Also available on chunky canvas that doesn't need framing for a more contemporary look where the paint is extended over the edges.

New for 2011 Oil on paper with card mount.

Portraits are not varnished as they have to be thoroughly dry, (at least six months), so either do it yourself using Winsor & Newton Artisan varnish (never houshold varnish),  It is easy to do: - lay the painting on a flat surface and using a soft flat brush give a light coat, leave to dry for 24 hours and repeat. Then leave another 24 hours before re-hanging.  Or return the painting for me to do.

Pencil Portraits are on smooth white paper and include a card mount.

To commission a portrait I require a good clear photograph showing the actual pose,  facial details and the correct colour preferably taken outside without a flash.  I can alter some details i.e. remove a bridle or headcollar etc. but prefer it to be as accurate as possible. I also prefer the photo to be sent by mail rather than e-mailed as the colours vary with different printers.

A 3/4 angle usually works best for horses.

If you have any doubts about the photos just e-mail me a jpg and I will let you know if I think it will be suitable.  (If I think I can work from it then you can send it to me).

No deposit is required, the full amount to be paid on completion.   I will e- mail or send a photograph of the finished portrait to you for your approval and I will dispatch the portrait to you on receipt of payment.  I accept payments by Paypal or (If paying by cheque when your cheque has cleared).   There is no obligation and a full refund will be given if not completely satisfied and the portrait is returned.
